Hanna (Hye-Na) Cho
A cultural omnivore and inveterate convenor, Hanna is a strategist, producer, and builder who has been crossing disciplinary boundaries since the earliest days of the Internet. She started out as a policy researcher for an international thinktank, where she launched its first-ever youth engagement initiative. From there, she went on to lead many firsts in the museum sector, from participatory urban design interventions, to augmented reality walking tours, and co-curating Bhangra workshops with community partners.
Hanna brings nearly two decades of international experience working with global museum, culture, and creative projects. Prior to launching Hamkkeh, she was Director of Learning and Community Engagement at the Royal BC Museum, where she focused on inclusive, community-driven, multi-modal engagement, and organizational transformation. She was Project Director at ngx (creative technology studio) where she worked with an international roster of clients, from the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum to the Perlan Museum in Iceland. As Curator of Engagement and Dialogue at the Museum of Vancouver, she launched a wide range of groundbreaking, community-driven, participatory public programs, curated virtual exhibits, and helped set new standards in community engagement for museums.
A bridge-builder and interdisciplinary connector, Hanna is active in diverse networks of local and global creative communities. She is passionate about bringing people, ideas, and culture together, and is a keen advocate, contributor, and mentor in the cultural sector. She has served as a Board Director for the BC Museums Association, helped found the Vancouver chapter of Business for the Arts, been appointed to the Mayor’s Engaged City Task Force (Vancouver), juried for the prestigious GLAMi awards (Museums and the Web) as well as the BC Arts Council. Hanna currently sits on the City of Vancouver Arts and Culture Advisory, and is a Thought Leader and Associate Consultant with global practice leader, Lord Cultural Resources.
